Iran’s active participation in IMO’s MEPC Meeting in London

MRUDNEWS - Iranian delegates are attending the session both in person and virtually after contributing to three preceding intersessional meetings (ISWG-GHG ۱۸, ISWG-GHG ۱۹, and ISWG-APEE ۱). During these meetings, Iran submitted three specialized technical statements supporting international environmental initiatives. MEPC’s Role in Global Maritime Policies The MEPC serves as the IMO’s key decision-making body for policies aimed at preventing and controlling marine pollution caused by shipping activities. It plays a crucial role in developing, adopting, and enforcing international maritime regulations. Focus Areas of MEPC ۸۳ Key topics under discussion at MEPC ۸۳ include the development of a global "Net Zero" framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships, reviewing short-term energy-efficiency measures based on the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), and evaluating Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings.
